40 Percent of Americans Take Early Retirement—But Should They?

More and more Americans are retiring early. In fact, according to a study from Edward Jones, personal factors have forced approximately 40 percent of Americans into an unwanted retirement before they planned for it.

Some retirees have health issues or outdated skill sets, and this makes them take their Social Security benefits early. Some say there’s also a psychological bias to claiming early, as seniors want the money they’ve fairly earned as soon as possible. Others are swayed by online influencers to take benefits early, though the choice comes down to a person’s unique situation.

A senior must consider their savings, expenses, health, work options, and ideal retirement goals before they make this crucial choice. While it’s a big decision, making it properly can help you be healthier and happier in retirement.
