When it comes to applying and getting approved for disability benefits, many Americans suffer frustrating rejections.
The issue leaves people dealing with pain, suffering, and poverty — without a source of direct help. While some can rely on family, friends, or organizations that provide economic assistance, many people need disability benefits and can’t get them.
Why is that? Some say the SSA has a data problem. Specifically, it relies on outdated data when turning down disabled applicants. Said applicants are told they could find jobs, some of which don’t exist anymore. That’s because said jobs are from the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, a compendium assembled half a century ago.
Updated data could provide more accurate information for approving or rejecting disability applications. Do you know someone who needs benefits but can’t get them? Share your story with us. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
