Do People Fear Growing Old? Here’s What Current Research Suggests

For some people, the thought of growing older can be troubling. It’s hard to imagine what kind of person you’ll be or where life will take you, especially when your golden years are decades away.

But while some stereotypes suggest older individuals may be more fearful, recent research from Forbes Health and OnePoll actually shows the opposite. About 53 percent of older Americans aren’t afraid of the aging process — and they get less afraid the older they get.

Perhaps it’s all a matter of perspective. After all, with each passing year we realize what a blessing life is. While it is normal to have some concerns about getting older, what specifically are seniors concerned about? Check the full link above for the details on this research. But as a preview, the top concern most seniors had was health issues. As for the top health issue they’re concerned about, it’s mobility.

While seniors may have health and financial concerns with aging, these can be managed if they get the full Social Security benefits they’re entitled to, adjusted for inflation.
