Do People Fear Growing Old? Here’s What Current Research Suggests

For some people, the thought of growing older can be troubling. It’s hard to imagine what kind of person you’ll be or where life will take you, especially when your golden years are decades away.

But while some stereotypes suggest older individuals may be more fearful, recent research from OnePoll actually shows the opposite! About 53 percent of older Americans aren’t afraid of the aging process — and they get less afraid the older they get.

Perhaps it’s all a matter of perspective. After all, with each passing year we realize what a blessing life is. While it is normal to have some concerns about getting older, what specifically are seniors concerned about? Per current survey data, most seniors’ top concern is health issues. As for the top health issue they’re concerned about, it’s mobility.

It’s normal to be concerned about aging to some degree. However, these fears can be managed through skillful planning and a proper mindset, resulting in a rewarding retirement along with a relaxing road to it.
