An Alabama woman is in serious trouble after she confessed to claiming her late mother’s Social Security benefits for nearly 30 years.
The woman is believed to have collected over $337,000 throughout the decades. An internal audit alerted authorities to the fact that the woman’s mother may be deceased. She was then requested to bring her to the local Social Security office. When confronted by authorities, she confessed, saying she needed the money to pay bills.
The woman had gone to the office about setting up a repayment plan. During the years when she was claiming the money, she told authorities her mother was living with her but was unable to speak due to dementia.
