In the beginning of 2023, newly elected officials will be sworn into office and Congress will reconvene. There are a few key pieces of legislation that could see movement in the new year that could impact seniors.

These include:

Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust

This bill would gradually increase Social Security benefits, change the way cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) are calculated, and make some other technical changes. It was first introduced in 2019 but didn’t gain much traction. However, with a new Congress in place, it could have a better chance of passing.

The TRUST Act

This bill would create a bipartisan commission to study the solvency of Social Security and make recommendations on how to ensure its long-term viability. The commission would be made up of 12 members, equally divided between Democrats and Republicans.

While there are many projects for the new Congress to take on in 2023, these two pieces of legislation could have a direct impact on seniors. At The Seniors Center, we’re calling on our nation’s lawmakers to take action, and we could use your help.
