Romance scams have grown considerably year over year, but in 2020, they absolutely exploded thanks to widespread isolation and loneliness in all age groups.
But no demographic is more targeted by this type of scammer than seniors. So while retirees remain in strict quarantine for their own safety, relying increasingly on digital communication to socialize, scammers have unprecedented access to older Americans logging in and looking for friendship.
