Government imposter scams, where a scammer pretends to be a government official in order to steal money or information, are on the rise. These scams are especially likely to target seniors, and often come in the form of phone calls from unknown numbers. They might pose as Medicare, Social Security, or even FBI employees. In some cases, the scammers could pretend to offer you money.
If you receive a suspicious phone call, hang up. Don’t give out any information. And learn more about how to spot this scam from The Seniors Center Blog’s post “Government Imposter Scams Targeting Seniors.”
